The City of Roeland Park is chartered under Kansas statute as a City of the Second Class, and it operates as a Mayor/Council/Administrator form of government. The mayor is elected at-large and serves a four-year term. Two councilmembers are elected from each of the city’s four wards and serve staggered four-year terms. The City Council is empowered to adopt and enforce legislative and budgetary ordinances, policies, rules, and regulations necessary to conduct the public’s business and to provide for the protection of the general health, safety, and welfare of the public.
City Council Meetings
City Council conducts its monthly council meetings on the third Monday at 7:00 pm in City Council Chambers.
Governing Body Workshop
City Council conducts its work sessions as needed on the second floor of the Municipal Building. City Council conducts its nuts and bolts business at the work sessions. Items that appear at the work session, if approved by the governing body, are formally presented at a council meeting for formal action. The work session convenes immediately before the City Council meetings.
Public Attendance at Meetings
The public is cordially invited to attend the meetings and work sessions of the City Council. Any person wishing to appear before the City Council may appear at the meeting and present his or her concerns. The Mayor will always ask, at the public comments section, if anyone in the audience has anything they would like to bring to the attention of City Council. Anyone wishing to formally present information to the City Council, particularly presentations which would require Council action, should contact the City Administrator’s Office at (913) 722-2600.
