Ward 1 Councilmember: Becky Fast
Current Term: April 2015 – April 2019
Becky Fast was elected in a special election in 2012 and re-elected to the Roeland Park City Council in 2015. She was elected unanimously to the leadership role of Council President in 2015 and elected unanimously for a second term in 2017. She has served as the Chair of the Finance and Public Works Committee.
Upon re-election, Becky was appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) Community and Economic Development Legislative Advisory Committee. As city councilor, she has served as a representative to Mid-America Regional First Tier Suburbs Coalition and Johnson County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board for the city’s aquatic center and community center.
Becky has a long history of public service and commitment to her community. She is a graduate of the 2013 Northeast Johnson County Chamber Leadership training program and the 2016 Johnson County Citizen Academy class. She was appointed by the Johnson County Commission and served a term on the Johnson County Affordable Housing Taskforce and Drug and Alcoholism Council.
She graduated with honors with a master’s degree in public administration and social work from the University of Kansas. After graduation, Becky conducted public policy research at the University of Kansas School of Social Welfare. Recently, she served as an aide to former U.S. Congressman Dennis Moore. In that role, she helped the City of Roeland Park access $1.25 million in federal funds to improve the city’s storm water system. Currently, Becky is an instructor at Washburn University in the Human Services Department.
