Study for Monumental
(Table and Chairs)

Study for Monumental ( Tables and Chairs ) developed into a thought provoking display of linear perspective in space. Appropriating the metaphorical image of a table and chair and removing its function by placing the unit on an axis transforms them into a geometric design. While the viewer never loses its origin, this brings a magical quality to the initial viewing of the piece. The two units identical in design and orientation but vary in scale brought another dimension to the piece, and a visual play between the two tables and chairs take place.

Bio

I am a 2006 graduate of The Kansas Art Institute, with a major in sculpture.  I am a father of three, two girls and one boy, and have spent most of my life living in and around Chicago, where I was born.  I have been living in Holden, Missouri for the last three and one half years.

I originally studied art at Northern Illinois University in the late 1960s and early 1970s.  At that time I owned and operated a small coffee house/restaurant/arts center in Dekalb, Illinois.  I have worked in industrial environments for ten years and commercial and industrial construction for 20 years.   After moving to the Kansas City area I saw an opportunity to realize a dream of mine by returning to school and obtaining my Bachelor of Fine Arts.

This last spring my fiancé and I have started a non-profit community based art center called “The Holden Art.”  It is located on our ten-acre farm within Holden, Missouri city limits.  My studio is located on the Art Farm and is where I spend most of my time.  My work has been shown at numerous galleries in Kansas City and surrounding area.  I enjoy painting and printing as well as my three dimensional work.  I have expectations of continuing with my art in the public realm and in galleries and look forward to the future.
