Replacement of the tennis courts original to the Roeland Park Elementary School is set to begin the first part of April. McConnel and Associates a local firm who specializes in tennis court construction anticipates the project will be complete by the first of June. Roeland Park, in partnership with the United States Tennis Association and their Missouri Valley Region arm are excited to bring the courts back to one of the first locations for tennis play in Johnson County. The two-court layout with youth and regulation lines will serve new comers to the game as well as seasoned players. Johnson County Parks and Recreation is also a partner on the project, providing tennis programs at the new facility for all ages. Roeland Park Public Works also contributed to the project, starting the actual ground breaking in mid-March with the removal of the components of the originals courts. “The project in total represents a $174,000 investment in our parks, said Keith Moody City Administrator, with the National USTA contributing a grant of $20,000, the Missouri Valley Region USTA contributing a grant of $12,000, Public Works providing demolition services of $10,000 and the balance paid for with City capital improvement funds.” The tennis courts are planned for completion by the first of June 2018.
