2020 Sales Tax Ballot Question
Birch Road Project
Be on the look out for an initiative on the ballot this November! The City of Roeland Park has approved placing a sales tax renewal question on the general election ballot. The revenue would go toward infrastructure projects around the city.
About the Ballot Question
The current one-quarter of one-percent (.25%) sales sunsets on March 31, 2023. The City of Roeland Park has placed a question on the November 2020 Ballot regarding this issue.
“Shall the City of Roeland Park, Kansas be authorized to terminate the current one-quarter of one percent (0.25%) special purpose City Retailers’ Sales Tax currently levied and to stop collection as of 12/31/2020, and to levy a new one-half of one percent (0.50%) special purpose City Retailers’ Sales Tax and to use the revenue from the new City Retailers’ Sales Tax for public infrastructure projects, including buildings with such tax to take effect on 1/1/21 and to end on 12/31/30; such tax shall be levied pursuant to K.S.A. 12-187, et seq.?”
This sales tax provides support for a variety of infrastructure improvements including improvements to buildings, sidewalks, streets, stormwater infrastructure, and parks.
