racial equity committee education series: September 22nd
REDLINED: CITIES, SUBURBS, SEGREGATION takes visitors on a deep dive into the history of redlining and how it both shaped and was shaped by Johnson County and the region. Visitors will learn about the 19th and 20th century foundations of redlining, how the private practice became federal policy during the Great Depression, the expansion of the practice during postwar suburbanization, attempts to dismantle the system during the Civil Rights Era, and how the legacies of redlining continue to impact communities around the nation today.
Roeland Parkers are encouraged to visit the exhibit and join Andrew Gustafson, Curator of Interpretation, for a virtual Q and A and discussion on Thursday September 22. Information about the exhibit’s hours and pricing can be found here. Note that Saturday September 17th is a free day!

OVERVIEW
The Ad Hoc Racial Equity Committee started in September 2020 after the City approved a racial equity resolution no. 682. Part of this charge was to begin a committee to review the City's policies and determine how we could become more inclusive as a community.
RESOURCES
Part of the committee's goal is to help educate the community on matters of racial justice. The Committee in cooperation with Johnson County Public Library has put together several resources for members of the community to start to learn more about race and racism. We encourage you to check out these links to learn more.
