The Citizens Sculpture Initiative for R Park has announced that the fundraising goal of $62,600 for the R Park Sculpture Project has been met, thanks to the generosity and community-mindedness of 5 family foundations, 10 businesses and over 300 individuals. The City of Roeland Park and the sculptor, Jorge Blanco, signed a contract at the end of October for Blanco to construct a sculpture for R Park from drawings that were approved by the Arts Advisory Committee in Roeland Park.
Blanco has begun the first phase of the public art piece by designing the work on a computer to make sure that all the dimensions are correct. After this step, he will do technical drawings on paper which will be the blueprint for the heavy aluminum fabrication of the work.
Blanco, an internationally-acclaimed artist, lives in Florida. The sculpture is expected to be installed in R Park around May, 2019.
