About the Council

The City of Roeland Park is chartered under Kansas statute as a City of the Second Class, and it operates as a Mayor/Council/Administrator form of government. The mayor is elected at-large and serves a four-year term. Two councilmembers are elected from each of the city's four wards and serve staggered four-year terms. The City Council is empowered to adopt and enforce legislative and budgetary ordinances, policies, rules, and regulations necessary to conduct the public's business and to provide for the protection of the general health, safety, and welfare of the public.

Governing Body Workshop

City Council conducts its work sessions as needed on the second floor of the Municipal Building. City Council conducts its nuts and bolts business at the work sessions. Items that appear at the work session, if approved by the governing body, are formally presented at a council meeting for formal action. The work session convenes immediately before the City Council meetings.
