In response to concerns from residents about the speed along Roe Blvd as well as concerns about the pedestrian crossing at Roe Blvd & Rosewood Drive, the city worked with the traffic engineer to conduct a speed study on Roe Blvd. Traffic engineers assessed the pedestrian crossing and identified some potential improvements.
The results of those conversations led to the recommendation to add Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons and signage at the pedestrian crosswalk as well as advanced flashing beacons ahead of the crosswalk. The rapid flashing beacons will operate using solar power and will be activated by a push button that is located on each signpost. Once the button is activated, the advanced flashing beacon sign and flashing beacon at the crosswalk will flash for a determined number of seconds alerting motorists that a pedestrian is wanting to cross. The purpose for adding these rapid flashing beacons is to increase visibility of the crosswalk and increase pedestrian safety.
